Canopy Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

Canopy turns how you use your phone into a picture of a tree. This policy explains what the app reads and what happens to it.

Short version

Everything Canopy reads stays on your phone. The app has no internet permission, so it cannot send your data anywhere. There are no accounts, ads, analytics or third-party SDKs that collect data.

What Canopy reads

  • App usage (required, through Android’s Usage Access setting): which apps were in the foreground and for how long, how often you unlocked the phone, and when the screen was on. Canopy reads Android’s own usage log about once an hour.
  • Notification counts (optional, through Notification Access): the name of the app that posted each notification and the time. The content of notifications is never read or stored.
  • Approximate location (optional, off by default): used only to draw the sun’s path in the sky. It is rounded to about 10 km and stored only on the phone.

Where it is stored

All data is kept in the app’s private storage on your phone. Detailed records are deleted automatically after 90 days; daily totals are kept so the all-time tree can grow. Android backup is turned off for Canopy, so its data is not copied to cloud backups.

Sharing

Canopy does not share data with anyone. If you choose to share a tree picture, save it to your gallery, or export your data as a CSV or JSON file, that file goes only where you send it.

Your control

  • Turn off Usage Access, Notification Access or location in Android’s settings at any time.
  • Delete everything with Settings → Delete All Data in the app, or by uninstalling Canopy.

Children

Canopy is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new date.
